Teaching
Cambridge O Level and IGCSE Accounting (0452), Business Studies (0450), and ACCA papers. Memorising mark schemes gets a student part of the way. Knowing why the entry goes where it goes gets them the rest.
Subjects
Double entry, ledgers and trial balance, adjustments, control accounts, correction of errors, partnerships and limited companies, ratios and interpretation. Built around working the question, not reciting the format.
Cambridge O Level & IGCSEBusiness activity, people in business, marketing, operations and finance. The marks in this paper come from applying a point to the case, and that is what we drill.
Cambridge O Level & IGCSESupport for students working through the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills papers, from someone who sat them and uses the material daily.
Applied Knowledge & SkillsHow it works
Explain. Every topic starts with what the thing actually is and why anyone bothered inventing it. A suspense account stops being a mystery once you see the situation it was built to handle.
Practise. Past-paper questions, timed the way the real paper is timed, with the command words taken seriously. State, explain and analyse are three different jobs and are marked as three different jobs.
Mark honestly. Work comes back marked against the scheme, with the marks that were missed named plainly. A student who is told their answer was fine when it was not walks into the exam unprepared.
The aim is a student who can meet an unfamiliar question and still know what to do with it.
Materials
Alongside lessons I write topic notes, worked examples and full practice papers with mark schemes for both syllabuses. They are used with my own students first, and a growing number are being prepared as workbooks.
For tuition, materials or a question about either syllabus, send me a note with the subject, the level and when the exam is.
